COOKERY SESSIONS

All children in EYFS take part in weekly cookery sessions which allow children to prepare and cook food, try new dishes and find out about other cultures and traditions.

FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCES

We provide children with many first-hand experiences such as trips and visits, and try to make learning as hands-on as possible.

INCLUSIVE FOR ALL CHILDREN

We pride ourselves in knowing our children really well and adapting our teaching environment and support to all children in our care. We have good relationships with external agencies and the schools Senco.

FOREST SCHOOL

All of our children attend weekly Forest School led by qualified Forest School practitioners. These sessions support our children in being risk-takers, developing their social skills and communication and sparking their creativity.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Our learning environment reflects the interests of the children and we use lots of natural resources and soft lighting to ensure they are not over-stimulated and that their play is open-ended.

NURSERY

PARENT PARTNERSHIP

At South Hylton we use an online learning journal called Tapestry. It can be accessed online or through an app. Tapestry allows for staff at school to upload photographs and videos of the children at school showing observations of their learning. Parents and carers can also upload images on the app for children to share at school.

HOMEWORK

All children in Early Years Foundation Stage bring home a library book every Friday. In Nursery the children have a weekly home learning activity and in Reception the children bring home daily phonics letter formation practice and a weekly reading activity based on their phonics level.

PARENT SESSIONS

We enjoy welcoming our parents into the setting for termly stay and play sessions as well as parents' evening sessions and a written report in the Summer term.
