How We Care For Your Child

At South Hylton Primary Academy, we are incredibly proud of our pupils’ high standards of behaviour and their positive attitudes. Pupils understand what is expected of them, behave well, and are respectful of each other and of adults.

We have adopted a restorative approach to behaviour, focusing on resolving any conflict through conversation and empathy. As a result, relationships are positive throughout the school, and pupils demonstrate high levels of cooperation and social awareness. Pupils take great pride in their school and speak highly of what it means to be a part of our school community.

Pupils are happy and consistently report that they feel safe and know how to stay safe. This is reflected in the last three years of pupil and parent/carer surveys, where overwhelmingly (90%+) of pupils state they feel safe in school, and 85%+ of pupils enjoy coming to school. In the most recent survey, over 95% of parents reported that their child is encouraged to work hard and do their best, and 94% said that their child’s teacher is approachable.

We are dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of our entire community. We have access to a school mental health nurse and a Trust Educational Psychologist, ensuring we can provide expert guidance when needed. Additionally, we offer a planned program of extra-curricular activities through the SHPA Passport, encouraging pupils to engage in a wide variety of experiences to support their personal growth.

Our commitment to community wellbeing is demonstrated by the Wellbeing Awards we have received for staff, pupils, and parents. We also have a community garden and a dedicated room where we can host events aimed at sign-posting services and providing relevant advice to families.

To support your children effectively, we are committed to working closely with you and your family. We maintain strong links with various organisations, so if we do not have the expertise ourselves, we usually know where to find it.

Effective systems are in place to support families and pupils with complex or differing needs. We strive to provide a welcoming, supportive environment where all members of our community can flourish.
